About

Statutory body established in 1981 by Govt. of India under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare

for Integrated development of coconut cultivation & industry in the country, in accordance with the Coconut

Development Board Act, 1979, enacted by the Parliament of India.

Objectives


  • ■  Providing financial or other assistance for the development of high yielding coconut hybrids, adoption of

    improved methods of cultivation of coconut, modern technology for processing of coconut and extension of

    areas under coconut cultivation (including replanting) with a view to improving the growth of coconut

    industry;

  • ■  Imparting technical advice to any person who is engaged in the cultivation of coconut or the processing or marketing of coconut and its products;

  • ■  Recommending measures for improving the marketing of coconut and its products within and outside India;

  • ■  Adopting measures for the development of coconut industry so that farmers, particularly small farmers, may become the participants in and beneficiaries of, the development and growth of coconut industry.

Schemes implemented for Coconut in AP:

1. Expansion of area under coconut:

    ■  The Scheme is to promote new area under Coconut Cultivation. Under this Scheme, the source of planting materials shall be from, the Nurseries of State Govt./ CDB/CPCRI/ CDB assisted Private Nurseries/ SAUs. Subsidy will be limited to 25% of cost for a maximum of 10 acres per beneficiary, in two equal installments as detailed below.

    ■  The scheme is implemented by CDB directly and Department only verify and forward eligible farmers applications to CDB.

    ■  Under this program bund plantation is also permitted with minimum of 10 seedlings per farmer.

2. Replanting and Rejuvenation of Coconut Gardens (R&R) Scheme (with 100% support from Coconut Development Board)

To enhance production and productivity of coconut by removal of disease advanced, Old, and senile palms, replanting with quality seedlings and rejuvenating the remaining palms through an integrated package of practices.

Components of the Scheme:

  • ■  Cutting and removal of all disease advanced, old, and senile palms.
  • ■  Replanting with quality seedlings limited to optimum plant population recommended for coconut in Andhra Pradesh.
  • ■  Rejuvenation of existing gardens through integrated management practices.
  • ■  Implementation, Monitoring, Evaluation, Training etc.

3. Laying out Demonstration Plots:

Under this financial assistance is limited to Rs.35,000/- per ha in two annual installments depending on the activities undertaken in the coconut gardens with a view to demonstrate the possibility of improving the productivity and income through Integrated Farming.

4. Coconut Palm Insurance Scheme (CPIS)

■  Coconut cultivation is subjected to risks from climate changes, natural disasters, pests, diseases etc. and, at times, entire coconut cultivation of a region, gets wiped out due to natural calamity or onset of pest attack.

  • ■  Assist coconut growers in insuring coconut palms, against natural and other perils.

  • ■  Provide timely relief to farmers, who suffer income loss due to sudden death of palms. Minimize risk and encourage replanting and rejuvenation to make coconut farming remunerative.

  • ■  On premium, 50% subsidy paid by Coconut Development Board (CDB) and 25% by State Government concerned and balance 25% of the premium will be paid by farmer / grower.

5. Kera Suraksha Insurance Scheme:

■  The Kera Suraksha Insurance Scheme for Coconut Tree Climbers (CTC)/Neera Technicians / Coconut Harvesters is being implemented in association with The New India Assurance Company Ltd.

■  The sum assured revised under the policy is Rs.5.00 lakh against 24 hours accident related risk including death.

■  Annual premium under the policy is Rs.375/-, out of which Board’s share of premium is Rs.281/- and balance Rs.94/- is the beneficiary’s share.
